Record turnout at freshers’ trials

After a strong pre-season effort, CURLFC welcomed a record number of new players to their first full training session of the year. Head Coach Andy Champ and a few old heads put the new boys through their paces with the traditional conditioning Baptism of Fire.

Taking advantage of the club’s improved facilities at Cambridge RUFC, the players completed one of Champ’s demanding conditioning sessions. They flipped tyres, dragged sleds and were pushed to their limit in the way Champ has become famous for amongst older players. The more experienced players then helped introduce the new boys to the basics of the game. The afternoon culminated in a conditioned game as the new boys got stuck into the physicality of rugby league.

‘The new guys have slotted in really well with the old heads. We were all really impressed with the quality of the new recruits. They worked hard in the conditioning and they’ll bring us some aggression and muscle for the new season,’ said Club President Tom Hughes.

CURLFC’s next training session will be at 7:45 on Monday evening at Volac Park as the club works towards the opening game of the season against Reading on Wednesday.

If you couldn’t make Saturday’s session but still want to play, come down on Monday evening or check out further details here.
