Varsity

The Rugby League Varsity Match

The Varsity Match is usually held in early March every year.  It is a huge event for the Club and draws between 700-1000 spectators every year. The second team match is played as a curtain raiser for the first team Varsity Match.

Players selected to play in the first team Varsity Match will receive a half-blue for their performance. The Club’s current discretionary full blue status means that we earn 5 full blues if we win the first team Varsity Match. The Club were delighted to award these 5 full blues in 2021 to: Elliott Stockdale, Max Holcroft, Reuben Brown, Will Scrivens, and Richard Bowen.

Past locations for the Varsity Match have included Craven Cottage, Headingley Stadium, and the Twickenham Stoop. Previous Varsities have even been televised live on Sky Sports!

In 2021, the Varsity Match returned to Cambridge and was played in front of a sold-out Grange Road in June. Cambridge won the match 14-8, ending 12 years of Varsity heartache in a thrilling game.
